How to deal with stress

No matter how much you enjoy your life, relationship, job, or hobbies, there’s always going to be some stress involved, and learning how to deal with it will make your life easier overall. This article provides ten practical tips on how to deal with stress, so you can live your best life no matter what’s going on around you.

1) Give yourself a break away from the stressor.

Get away from the stressor

One way to reduce stress is to take a break from the stressor- whatever it is; relationship, work, or hobby.

Whether it be from a career, a relationship, or a hobby. It’s easy to get carried away in your work, hobby, and relationships to a point of taking on more than you can manage. But if you’re feeling overwhelmed, kindly give yourself a break.

And while on a break, try some of these stress management tips to help balance your workload. Ensure you are taking care of yourself by eating healthily and drinking enough water.

However, be careful not to overdrink water as that may lead to water intoxication. And don’t forget about physical activity, even if it is a brisk walk outside because it is an excellent way to relieve stress!

2) Meditate

Meditation is another great way to practice stress management. It doesn’t have to be complicated. All you need is a quiet room,  a scented candle, and ten minutes of your time. Meditating can help clear your head, relieve stress, and improve your mood. Try taking a few minutes to meditate, even if it is once every day.

3) Take deep breaths to avoid the pressure.

You might not be aware, but taking deep breaths actually helps to reduce tension and stress. No matter the problem, taking deep breaths can help you feel more relaxed and keep your mind focused. This is the opposite of what your body does when stressed, which is to hold your breath or breathe shallowly.

If you’re having difficulty breathing, even if it’s only for a minute or two, take a break from whatever you’re doing and sit down in a quiet place. Take deep breaths through your nose and you’ll start to feel better soon.

4) Watch your diet

Finding healthy strategies to cope with stress is the key to effective stress management. For instance, two of the best strategies to lower stress levels include eating healthily and exercising regularly. When you eat well and exercise, your body will produce more serotonin.

Being physically active helps lower cortisol production which makes it easier to handle stressful situations.

5) Try Listening to your favorite Music

Music is also a great way to relax your mind and soothe your soul. Find some soothing music that you enjoy, whether it’s classical or jazz, and put on some headphones or turn up the volume.

Focus on the music, not everything else going on in your life. Lie down, close your eyes and focus solely on the music rhythm. Take a shower, lie down and take deep breaths as you listen to the melody. You may find yourself feeling more relaxed than before after listening to just a couple of songs that you like.

Note: If you are stressed because of heartbreak, please refrain from listening to heartbreak songs as they will tend to remind you of your stressors rather than help you deal with stress which is the primary goal.

6) Try some Yoga

Yoga is also another best exercise to help deal with stress and anxiety. Yoga emphasizes mindfulness, physical movement, and breath work which will help you release tension and find balance in your life. You don’t have to be an expert; start by following some simple guided yoga videos online(maybe youtube) or from a video streaming service like Netflix. Yoga doesn’t require any equipment and it can be done anywhere, whether it’s at the home, gym, or at a park.

7) Exercise Everyday

Stress often manifests itself in physical symptoms and exercise is a great way to relieve some of the pressure. Exercise gives you an outlet for your energy, burns calories, releases endorphins, and lowers stress levels. If you don’t have time for a long workout, try doing 20 minutes of cardio or strength training 3 to 4 times per week.

8) Sleep Well

9) Practice Mindfulness

The best way to combat stress is to keep your mind at ease. This can be done by practicing mindfulness, which is the act of living in the present moment, being aware of and attentive to your thoughts, feelings, and surroundings.
