1. Fishy odors indicate an STD.
One common women health myth is that fishy odors indicate an STD. This is just a myth. STDs are sexually transmitted infections. A vagina usually has a distinct smell, that is why it is very crucial for every woman to maintain a high feminine hygiene.
Bad fishy odors may indicate poor hygiene around the vaginal area. Consider taking a shower and wash the vaginal area carefully with plenty of clean water and see if the fishy smells disappear. However, if this persists even after taking a shower, then you will be required to see a doctor for checkups. A sexually transmitted infection can occur if you have unprotected sex with a person who has the infection.
If you do not know the health status of a person, kindly do not have unprotected sex. Use a condom till you visit a doctor together for tests.
STDs are characterised with vaginal discharge, pain while peeing strange rushes around the area and vaginal itching.
2. No smell means a healthy vagina.
Another women health myth is that no smells means your vagina is healthy. Much as a fishy smell does not necessarily mean that you have an STD, no smell does not guarantee your vagina is healthy.
This is why the doctors advice women to go for regular checkups such as the cervical cancer screenings. It might interest you to know that cervical cancer screening will help the doctor determine the early signs of cervix cancer. Without these screenings, you might not be able to know if you have cancerous cells or not.
Also, some STI’s do not come with any smells, so you might not be able to know if you have any infection. Do not rely on vaginal smells to track an STD. Look for other signs such as itching, discharge and swelling.
3. Cranberries can treat urinary tract infections.
There is also another common myth that cranberry juice and fruits can help treat Urinary Tract Infections. However, this isnot true. According to research, cranberries can help prevent UTI but they cannot treat the already existing UTI.
According to research, cranberries can prevent UTI by preventing germs from adhering to the bladder’s walls. This way, there won’t be a chance of developing UTI.
4. HPV means cancer.
One other common women health myth is that HPV means cancer. No! Thats not true. One of the most prevalent sexually transmitted illnesses is the human papillomavirus. However, because some forms of HPV are regarded as high risk while others are low risk, having HPV does not necessarily indicate that you have cancer.
Genital warts and lesions are caused by the Low-risk varieties of HPV, whereas various malignancies are brought on by the High-risk types of HPV. 6. Douching will prevent pregnancy.
It is a myth that douching will help prevent pregnancy. If you have unprotected intercourse, you are likely to get pregnant even if you douche. During unprotected intercourse, sperms swim freely to the uterus. Before the activity is done and a woman thinks of douching, sperms would have already made it to the egg.
If you do not want to get pregnant, ensure you use protection- birth control options as they are many available. Failure to do that, you will get pregnant whether you douche or not.
7. Lemon tightens your vagina.
There are so many reasons why most people (men and women) may want to keep their pelvic floor muscles in check. However, the most common reason for women wanting to exercise their pelvic floor muscles is to have a tighter vagina to enjoy sex more or to satisfy their partners more.
For this reason, women go an extra mile to try to make tightening their pelvic floor muscles at all costs by putting lemon around their vaginal area.
Nevertheless, bear in mind that putting a lemon in your vagina won’t help to constrict a stretched-out vagina. If you want to do it, you can do so using kegel exercises which is a natural and more effective way of tightening the pelvic floor muscles. Kegel exercises make the vaginal muscles contract, which may enhance sexual pleasure.
8. Pineapple will make your vagina sweet.
It is also a women health myths that pineapples will make your vagina sweet. It is very absurd that some people believe that eating pineapples will make their vaginas sweet. Pineapples are good fruits that you can incorporate in your diet but that will not play any part in making your vagina sweet.
9. Frequent sex will loosen your vagina.
Another common women health myths is that frequent sex will loosen your vagina. There are so many reasons that can loosen your vagina including childbirth, aging, injuries and surgeries. However frequent sex is not one of the reasons that might loosen one’s vagina. No evidence proves that frequent sex loosens one’s vagina.
In a world with lots of social media platforms and influence, people get different views, perceptions and opinions about things. However, be careful not to be carried away with things that you are not sure about simply because you heard someone say them.
