Monkeypox is a virus infection that is transmitted from animals to humans brought about by the monkeypox virus. This rare infection can be transmitted from one person to another in different ways and especially, through touch/physical contact.

The monkeypox outbreak started this year 2022 in the USA. The first instance was actually reported in Boston, Massachusetts, on May 19, 2022, and ever since then, infections have been rising steadily in number.

The United States has so far reported the highest number of cases of monkeypox infections, followed by other countries such as Brazil and Spain among others.

In general, the United States now has the highest number of cases of monkeypox in the globe, with California having the highest number of cases in the country.

Following the rise in the number of monkeypox infections, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC) on august, 4th 2022 proclaimed monkeypox a public health emergency in the United States.

Typically, monkeypox affects Central and West Africa. But don’t go around like you’re invincible just because you’re not from these places. In reality, imported animals, foreign/international travel, and close contact with an infected animal or person are frequently to blame for monkeypox instances outside of Africa. So be cautious!

The monkeypox virus can be fatal. In reality, the first monkeypox death in the United States was reported on August 30, 2022. Monkeypox symptoms may include fever, blister-like rashes, and enlarged lymph nodes. From the day of infection, these symptoms will last for a few days. There are mild to severe symptoms.

Monkeypox cure.

The monkeypox virus still has no known cure, although research is being done to find one, including the Modified vaccinia Ankara, among other possibilities. The only prophylactic measure that is now available is hand washing and avoiding contact with infected people and animals.

It has been suggested that smallpox vaccines can help prevent monkeypox by a certain percentage because the viruses that cause smallpox and monkeypox are similar.

As it is customary, taking care of yourself is the first step to staying safe from any kind of infection. So do not just look at your physical hygiene(general and dental) and fail to take care of your health. Take care and stay safe.
